The “Effective Reentry Ministry for Ordinary Congregations” workshop scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Grace Lutheran Church in Phoenix has been canceled.

The workshop was to be led by Fred Nelson, founder and executive director of the Inside Out Network (ION).

Fred has shared that ION is now exploring alternative formats, including the possibility of offering this content as an online webinar or other virtual learning opportunity in the near future. If those plans move forward, the Grand Canyon Synod will share updated information as it becomes available.

The canceled workshop was designed to support pastors and ministry leaders who feel called to accompany people returning from incarceration, offering a biblical framework, current reentry research, and practical ministry models that can be adapted to local congregational contexts. While this particular gathering will not take place as planned, the need for faithful, thoughtful engagement in reentry ministry remains an important part of our shared call as church.

We are grateful to Fred Nelson and the Inside Out Network for their partnership and for their ongoing work supporting returning citizens and the congregations and organizations that walk alongside them. We also thank Grace Lutheran Church for their willingness to host.
