Spirit in the Desert Retreat Center in Carefree will host a Healing of Memories workshop for all veterans November 20–22, 2026, free of charge. The retreat begins Friday at 6 p.m. and concludes Sunday at 2 p.m., at 7415 E. Elbow Bend, Carefree, AZ 85377.
Space is limited. To apply or ask questions, contact Mike Wold, a U.S. Navy veteran, at 651-687-9767 or michael_w_wold@msn.com.
Developed by the Institute for Healing of Memories, the workshop offers a supportive setting for veterans to explore personal histories and the effects of trauma, loss, and other life-changing experiences. Through reflection, meaningful sharing, and compassionate listening, participants can gain insight and empathy for themselves and others while exploring paths toward healing and renewed relationships.
The retreat will be led by Pamela Cornwell Chambers, a licensed clinician and Healing of Memories facilitator, and Linda Rich, a social worker and longtime facilitator who served in military hospitals with the American Red Cross in Vietnam and the United States. Both bring extensive experience supporting people affected by difficult life experiences.
As Lutherans, we are called to accompany our neighbors with compassion and respect for each person’s dignity. Listening to veterans’ stories and connecting them with supportive communities are practical expressions of that calling.
Please share this opportunity with veterans in your congregation and community, including through care ministries and personal invitations. Visit the Healing of Memories event page for more information.
