How do we faithfully care for vulnerable people, respond wisely to misconduct concerns, and create healthier, safer congregational communities?
The Grand Canyon Synod invites rostered ministers and lay leaders to join a conversation with the ELCA’s Kendra Stea, Director, Misconduct Prevention, on Tuesday, August 18, at 10:00 a.m. Arizona / PDT via Zoom. This 90-minute gathering will provide practical guidance for congregations navigating difficult and sensitive situations with care, accountability, and compassion. Register here.
Participants will explore topics including:
Mandated reporting and legal responsibilities
Responding to misconduct concerns
Supporting vulnerable people while maintaining healthy boundaries
When and how to communicate with synod staff
Developing thoughtful congregational policies and practices
Congregational leaders regularly encounter situations that require wisdom, discernment, and clear processes. This conversation is designed to equip leaders with practical tools and best practices while also leaving space for questions and shared learning.
As Lutherans, we are called to care for our neighbors and steward communities where trust, dignity, and safety are honored. Safeguarding our worshiping communities is not only a matter of policy—it is a ministry of care rooted in our baptismal call to love and protect one another.
Because of the complexity of these topics, the session is planned for 90 minutes to allow ample time for Q&A and discussion.
Registration is required. Please register in advance to receive the Zoom link. Register here.
We encourage pastors, deacons, council leaders, staff, and other congregational leaders to attend.
