Problem gambling affects an estimated 5–10 million adults in the United States, bringing financial strain, emotional distress, and fractured relationships. With the rapid growth of online betting and gaming, awareness and prevention are more urgent than ever.

On Tuesday, August 26, the Center of Addiction & Faith will host a free one-hour webinar, Problem Gambling: Becoming a Part of the Solution, featuring Susan Sheridan Tucker, Executive Director of the Minnesota Alliance on Problem Gambling (MNAPG).

Tucker brings over 35 years of nonprofit leadership experience and a passion for advocating for those whose voices are diminished. Her work emphasizes the link between gambling addiction, mental health challenges, and substance use disorders, and she is dedicated to strengthening the infrastructure of problem gambling services.

The conversation will be hosted by Rev. Dr. Ed Treat, founder of the Center of Addiction & Faith. Pastor Treat’s own journey—from addiction to ordained ministry to national advocacy—shapes his commitment to equipping faith communities to respond with compassion and action.

This webinar will explore:

  • The scope of problem gambling in the U.S.

  • How gambling addiction intersects with other public health issues

  • Practical steps toward prevention and recovery

  • Ways faith communities can respond pastorally and prophetically

As Lutherans, we affirm the call to care for our neighbor in body, mind, and spirit. This is an opportunity to deepen understanding and join in ministry that addresses a hidden but growing need.

Register today and join the conversation on how together we can be part of the solution.
