Bishop Hutterer: Awaiting the Spirit

It has been a while since I wrote about in-person gathering for worship. I was waiting for certainty before I grabbed my pen. I was waiting for clarity from the federal government and the CDC, from health scientists, and from our state health departments and governors. I waited for a common-sense consensus amongst the citizens of our nation. I turned to the books of wisdom in the Old Testament, hoping for a revelation.

I am still waiting.

2020 Synod Assembly postponed

On Saturday, April 18, 2020, the Grand Canyon Synod Council agreed, through a unanimous vote, to postpone the 2020 Assembly. The 2021 assembly will be held in Las Vegas, with planned dates of June 10-11, 2021. The 2022 Assembly will be held in Mesa. Special thanks to Community Lutheran, Las Vegas, and Love of Christ, Mesa, for your flexibility and hospitality.

We will share hotel refund information as we learn it. Expect to see a refund of your Assembly fees by the end of the month.

Lutheran Social Services of Nevada: Heart of the City Senior Meal Program

As of Monday, March 23rd, the Lutheran Social Services of Nevada Heart of the City Senior Meal Program is served exclusively at Reformation Lutheran Church (580 East St. Louis, 89104) from 2:00 - 3:15 p.m. every weekday. Meals are free for seniors 60+. Currently we are offering our warm, nutrtious meals in to-go boxes to ensure the safety of our seniors.

Lutheran Social Services of Nevada: DigiMart Food Pantry

The Lutheran Social Services of Nevada DigiMart Food Pantry is currently open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The distribution serves those who are driving in a drive-thru format and individuals who are walking or taking public transportation simultantously.

We are continuing to offer Emergency Boxes of canned goods, dried staples, snacks, and produce (based on availability) and serving clients outside. No prior registration is necessary, and anyone in need is welcome to come and receive food. For questions on the DigiMart Food Pantry, contact info@lssnv.org.

And yet we are still in the season of Lent. These things that we are waiting for will not come to us yet, Christ has not died, let alone risen, and this Coronavirus and its ramifications, may be with us for months, maybe years.

Lutheran Social Services of Nevada: April 2020 Newsletter

Nevada is in a State of Emergency, local businesses and casinos have been temporarily shut down, group events and church gatherings have been postponed or moved online, and more and more people are looking to Lutheran Social Services of Nevada for support.

In the past two weeks alone, our DigiMart Food Pantry has served 801 families comprised of nearly 2,500 individuals – more than double what we serve in the average month.
