Nearly $50,000 raised for NELM wells

American Lutheran Sun City hosted a Walk for Navajo Water, raising to date $49,659.00 to help Navajo Lutheran Mission restore the deep and potable well on the Mission property. 104 walkers, including 11 Rock Point community members, enjoyed the 5K walk and a weekend of fun. In Rock Point, the local windmill wells have been tested and are not safe for human or animal use. Past uranium mining has contaminated the ground water supply in these shallow wells with lead and arsenic.

The new program is designed to equip and empower outdoor ministry organizations as they move toward more intentional welcome of people who historically have been marginalized in the church — especially people of color, people with disabilities and people who identify as LGBTQIA+.

2020 IRS mileage allowance

The Internal Revenue Service has issued the 2020 optional standard mileage rates used to calculate the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business and charitable, medical or moving purposes. Beginning Jan. 1, the business mileage rate decreased one-half cent for business travel and 3 cents for medical and certain moving expenses from 2019. The charitable rate is set by statute and remains unchanged.
