A Service for the Weary and Grieving: Blue Christmas with the Center of Addiction & Faith

The Center of Addiction & Faith invites all who are struggling this season to a virtual Blue Christmas Service on Sunday, December 21, at 6:00 p.m. Mountain Time (Arizona & Utah) / 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time (Southern Nevada).

This contemplative service takes place on Zoom and is open to anyone who carries grief, exhaustion, disappointment, or simply does not feel “merry and bright” this year.

Register here.

Amid the winter solstice—the longest night of the year—the church proclaims the gospel promise:

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it” (John 1:5).

Yet for many, the weight of this season can make that light feel far away. This service honors that truth. It creates space for lament, for honesty, and for God’s gentle presence in the shadows. Participants are invited to come exactly as they are—without pressure to perform or pretend.

Blue Christmas is a tradition rooted in Lutheran and ecumenical pastoral care, acknowledging that Christ meets us not only in joy, but also in heartbreak, illness, loneliness, and uncertainty. Together we ask for comfort, for courage, and for a small but steady light that rises even when we cannot yet see it.

If you can help the Center of Addiction & Faith spread the word about this service, they would be deeply grateful.

You are not alone. Come as you are.
