Rev. Beck is the oldest daughter of an LCMS pastor, the Rev. Earle T. Beck, who served in Michigan, her home state.

Cherlyne is a graduate of Concordia Teacher’s College in Seward, NE. She taught in Lutheran schools in Nebraska, as well as Flint and Detroit Michigan. She received a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Michigan. (Go Blue!!) Her Master of Divinity degree is from Christ Seminary, Seminex, the last class. She was ordained on August 21, 1983 and served congregations in Michigan and Long Island, NY.

In addition, Rev. Beck has served on two synod staffs: the Metropolitan New York Synod and the Southeast Michigan Synod where she worked with Candidacy, Call Process and Leadership. She has also served on the Churchwide (National) staff of the ELCA in Chicago two different times, the last time for 10+ years. When she retired in April of 2024 she was serving as the Director of Candidacy and was part of the ELCA System’s Academy. In 2025 she served as Pastor in Residence at two congregations in Michigan while their pastor was on Sabbatical.

Cherlyne presently lives with her daughter, Christa, in Prescott Valley, AZ .  Her son Luke and his wife, Cathi, are LCMS teachers in Glendale, AZ. After their years in the Midwest and Northeast they have been enjoying  “wonderful winters”.  (Her grandsons are still in cold Wisconsin.)
