On the Journey Together: The 2024–2025 Grand Canyon Synod Impact Report

Your generosity makes ministry possible. Through your gifts and participation, the Grand Canyon Synod has deepened relationships, strengthened leadership, and expanded our witness to Christ’s love across Arizona, southern Nevada, and St. George, Utah.

From February 2024 through January 2025, we’ve seen the Spirit at work:

  • Creating Possibilities: We supported 8 strategic ministries and 5 synod-authorized worshiping communities, walked alongside 14 congregations in transition, celebrated 6 ordinations and 16 installations, and accompanied 19 candidates in the call process. Through 19 congregational grants and Mission & Ministry Fund support, we’re fostering innovation, renewal, and leadership development.

  • Communicating Jesus: Our synod partners with Lutheran Campus Ministries at UofA, ASU, and NAU to cultivate faith in college students, extends witness globally through Lutheran Disaster Response and Lutheran World Relief, and promotes advocacy through LAMA and LEAN. We support essential services to over 70,000 people through Lutheran Social Services and build interfaith bridges through the Arizona Faith Network.

  • Connecting People: With 152 visits by the bishop and staff to congregations and ministries, we are committed to personal connection. We led retreats for retired pastors, accompanied 12 first call ministers, convened our Synod Assembly, and strengthened partnerships locally and globally—including with our companion synods in Mexico and Senegal.

We are grounded in the grace of Christ and guided by a mission to Communicate Jesus. Connect People. Create Possibilities. Your support ensures that no congregation walks alone. Whether navigating transition, celebrating new leadership, or discerning next steps, we walk together, empowered by the Spirit and led by the Gospel.

As Bishop Hutterer writes in the report’s opening message: “Because of you, the church continues to adapt, and bear witness to Christ’s love in a changing world.”
