Assembly Agenda Announced: Worship, Wisdom, and Welcome

The Grand Canyon Synod Assembly gathers June 12–13, 2025, at Community Lutheran Church in Las Vegas, Nevada. The assembly brings together rostered ministers, lay leaders, and ministry partners from across Arizona, southern Nevada, St. George (Utah), and the Navajo Nation to worship, discern, and celebrate our shared mission.

This year’s agenda balances holy worship, thoughtful presentations, time for discernment, and joyful community.

Thursday, June 12 opens at 10 am with check-in and a Synod Council meeting. Assembly proceedings officially begin with opening worship at 2 pm, with Bishop Deborah Hutterer preaching and Holy Communion celebrated. Following worship, the assembly will open with a welcome, adoption of rules and agenda, a treasurer’s report and mission plan presentation, and the first round of nominations and voting. Special guest David Scherer will speak at 4 pm. The day concludes with fellowship, appetizers, and an evening concert.

Friday, June 13 begins at 7:30 am with check-in. The day’s agenda includes prayer and Bible study with David Scherer, a video from the ELCA, and a reflection from Pastor Ben Bergren. Plenary sessions continue through the morning and early afternoon, interwoven with the Bishop and Synod Council Report, ministry recognitions, and a midday break for lunch and conversation. David Scherer returns at 12:30 pm, and the assembly concludes with closing worship at 2 pm before adjournment around 3:15 pm.

Please note: The agenda is subject to change. Visit gcsynod.org/2025/assembly/agenda for the most current information.

We encourage all voting members and guests to prepare prayerfully, arrive early, and make time to connect with fellow leaders in Christ. This year’s assembly reminds us that God continues to build up the body of Christ through worship, witness, and community.
