The Grand Canyon Synod invites you to an afternoon of theological depth and practical discipleship with Rev. Dr. Karoline Lewis, Professor and the Marbury E. Anderson Chair of Biblical Preaching at Luther Seminary.

On Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 1:00–4:00 PM at Living Water Lutheran Church (9201 E. Happy Valley Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85255), Rev. Dr. Lewis will lead Belonging: Five Keys to Unlocking Your Potential as a Disciple, centered on one of the most compelling conversations in Scripture — Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4).

This encounter is the longest sustained conversation Jesus has with anyone in all four Gospels. In it, we see not only theological depth but a living example of discipleship. The Samaritan woman becomes a model of what it looks like to move from wonder to witness — from curiosity and questioning to proclamation and invitation.

Together, participants will listen closely to this Gospel story and consider how belonging shapes identity, vocation, and witness in our own contexts. For rostered ministers and lay leaders alike, this event offers an opportunity to deepen biblical imagination, renew preaching and teaching, and reflect on how discipleship is formed in conversation with Christ.

This gathering aligns beautifully with our synod’s emphasis on being Rooted in God’s Story — grounding our lives and ministries in the enduring narrative of God’s faithfulness rather than the shifting narratives around us.

A reception will follow the presentation, offering time for conversation and connection.
