Bishop Curry Opens LWF’s 2025 Advent Series with a Message of Hope

The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) invites us into the 2025 Advent season with daily video reflections centered on faith, offered by Lutherans from across our global communion. From November 30 through December 24, a new message will appear each day on LWF’s social media channels and on the Advent calendar website.

This year’s theme, “Messages of Faith,” gathers short testimonies, stories, and theological reflections from women and men, young and old, lay and ordained—voices from every corner of the LWF’s 150 member churches and country programs. Each reflection invites us to consider how faith grounds us, shapes how we see the world, and sustains our hope as we await the coming of Christ.

Rev. Árni Svanur Daníelsson, LWF Chief of Staff to the General Secretary, describes the project this way:

“Advent calls us back to the heart of faith: God coming close. We hope these messages offer daily encouragement and remind us that even across great distances, we walk together towards Christmas.”

The first message comes from Presiding Bishop Yehiel Curry of the ELCA, who encourages us:

“Let faith steady your heart and guide your steps in the love of the Christ child.”

Why This Matters for Our Synod

As a synod of the ELCA, we are part of this wider global communion. These daily messages offer spiritual grounding, deepen our shared identity, and remind us that faith—lived in different contexts—unites us as we prepare our hearts for Christmas.
