Grand Canyon Synod stories of hope: April 2020

Synod members shared various stories of hope with us recently, and please remember to share yours. Some highlights:

Pastor Robert Jones with Santa Cruz Lutheran Church, Tucson, shares a Facebook album of a "Six Car Easter Parade," with 14 drive-by visits to homebound members and friends in neighborhoods on the west side of Tucson.

Pastor Carol Breimeier with Esperanza Lutheran Church, Ahwatukee, notes that the Ahwatukee Foothills News highlighted efforts by Esperanza folks for sewing masks and providing meals for healthcare workers.

Carol Brezina, Outreach Chair at Christ Lutheran, Sedona, let us know that 288 personal care kits were packed there on behalf of Lutheran World Relief.

Finally, Claire Crum, Church Council President at Grace Lutheran Church in Kingman shares they are creating CDC approved face masks utilizing their own material, machines, and, of course their time and talent.

Lutheran Social Services of Nevada: Heart of the City Senior Meal Program

As of Monday, March 23rd, the Lutheran Social Services of Nevada Heart of the City Senior Meal Program is served exclusively at Reformation Lutheran Church (580 East St. Louis, 89104) from 2:00 - 3:15 p.m. every weekday. Meals are free for seniors 60+. Currently we are offering our warm, nutrtious meals in to-go boxes to ensure the safety of our seniors.

Lutheran Social Services of Nevada: DigiMart Food Pantry

The Lutheran Social Services of Nevada DigiMart Food Pantry is currently open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The distribution serves those who are driving in a drive-thru format and individuals who are walking or taking public transportation simultantously.

We are continuing to offer Emergency Boxes of canned goods, dried staples, snacks, and produce (based on availability) and serving clients outside. No prior registration is necessary, and anyone in need is welcome to come and receive food. For questions on the DigiMart Food Pantry, contact info@lssnv.org.

Reformation Lutheran Participates in Peer Ministry Review

In March, Reformation Lutheran Church of Las Vegas became the first congregation to participate in an intentional Peer Ministry Review. Ministry reviews have been done for other congregations, but usually at the request of Synod or Churchwide leadership.

A big thank you to Pr. Jason Adams for the invitation to conduct this insightful process and to the review team for their diligent work and recommendations.

Last May, LSSN was awarded NWP's Impact Grant 2019 to enable us to add an additional 2,308 square feet to our DigiMart Food Pantry. Pastor Ben Bergren installed as Senior Pastor at Community Lutheran Church in Las Vegas

Pastor Ben Bergren was installed as the new Senior Pastor at Community Lutheran Church in Las Vegas on November 16, 2019. He begins a new chapter for the church that has had only two other Senior Pastors in its 46 year history. Bishop Deborah Hutterer installed Pastor Ben and other pastors in the Las Vegas Valley came for the event.
