Celebrating Service: How Volunteers, Churches, and Partners are Fueling LSSN’s Mission

Lutheran Social Services of Nevada: August 2025 Ministry Highlights

In August, Lutheran Social Services of Nevada (LSSN) witnessed the power of partnership—individuals, congregations, and businesses coming together to serve with generosity, creativity, and heart.

Volunteers at the Heart of Our Mission

Every Monday, Pete and JoAnn bring warmth, kindness, and a servant’s heart to the LSSN pantry. Their steadfast service was front and center when LSSN set a one-day record—distributing 18,000 pounds of food to the community. Their presence reminds us that the body of Christ is strongest when each part offers its unique gifts in service (1 Peter 4:10).

Congregations in Action

Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, First Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and St. Andrew Lutheran Church each stepped up in remarkable ways during Peanut Butter Wars and beyond—collecting food, baby baskets, school supplies, and more. Their ongoing generosity embodies the call to be the hands and feet of Christ in the world, offering nourishment and hope to our neighbors.

Community Partners Making a Difference

Business and nonprofit partners also played a vital role this month. Junk Masterz kept our property clean and welcoming. GISI donated scanners to modernize our systems, enabling more efficient client service. Power Promotions provided high-quality products that will support the launch of two new ongoing community services. And in the Peanut Butter Wars business division, Team Wellness—led by Dr. Evan Bishop of LVL Up Physical Therapy and Dr. Brad Partridge of Vitality Restored Chiropractic—took top honors for their outstanding collection and community care.

Honoring Leadership

We also celebrate our Employee of the Month, Michelle Cookson, whose tireless work as Pantry Manager has driven record-breaking distribution days and expanded programs like the She Cares Initiative. Michelle exemplifies servant leadership—meeting needs with compassion, dignity, and excellence.

From weekly volunteers to committed congregations, from generous businesses to dedicated staff, each person and partner plays a role in building a stronger, more compassionate community. Together, we are answering God’s call to love and serve our neighbors.
