Desert Cross Lutheran Seeks Worship Leader for Growing Gilbert Campus
Desert Cross Lutheran Church is seeking a part-time Worship Leader for its growing Gilbert campus, offering an opportunity to help shape Christ-centered worship while mentoring youth and emerging musicians in leadership. View job description here.
The position, which averages up to 12 hours per week, focuses on Sunday morning worship leadership and weekly preparation. The Worship Leader will lead worship vocally and instrumentally—preferably from piano—while helping cultivate a worship environment that is welcoming, participatory, and rooted in Lutheran tradition.
Serving under the oversight of the church’s Director of Worship & Media Arts, the Gilbert Campus Worship Leader will collaborate with pastors, musicians, and volunteers to support worship that blends contemporary music, hymns, and Lutheran liturgical elements. Responsibilities include preparing and leading weekly worship, coordinating volunteer musicians, and supporting seasonal services such as Advent, Christmas Eve, Lent, Holy Week, weddings, funerals, and other special gatherings.
A distinctive feature of the role is its emphasis on youth and emerging leader development. Desert Cross is seeking someone who can identify, encourage, and mentor young people with musical gifts—helping students participate meaningfully in worship through singing, instruments, worship teams, and leadership opportunities. The congregation hopes to build an intergenerational worship culture where younger musicians are welcomed, supported, and formed in faith and service.
Applicants should demonstrate a strong Christian faith, high proficiency on piano, confidence in vocal worship leadership, and the ability to lead both contemporary worship songs and traditional hymns. Familiarity with Lutheran theology, liturgy, and church music is preferred. Experience mentoring youth musicians or working in intergenerational worship settings is also a plus.
Interested applicants should submit a résumé or worship ministry experience summary, a brief cover letter, and (if available) audio or video examples of worship leadership to the Director of Worship & Media Arts at jvanrossum@desertcross.org. Compensation will be based on experience, skill level, and ministry responsibilities.
For those passionate about worship, music, and helping raise up the next generation of leaders in the church, this opportunity offers a meaningful way to serve in a growing ministry context.
