Faith, Hunger, Immigration, and Public Witness: This Week from LAMA
The latest newsletter from Lutheran Advocacy Ministry Arizona (LAMA) is now available, featuring opportunities for faithful advocacy, upcoming events, practical resources, and ways Lutherans across Arizona can engage public life through the lens of faith.
This week’s featured action alert offers one final invitation to support the ELCA Region 2 40-40-40 Lenten Challenge benefiting ELCA World Hunger. Donations received through May 31 still count toward the regional effort to address hunger and support vulnerable neighbors.
The newsletter also highlights several upcoming opportunities to learn and engage, including a conversation on how current policies are affecting children in immigrant families (May 28), a documentary screening and dialogue around racial justice through “We Ride for Her” (May 28), and ongoing advocacy gatherings focused on food systems, creation care, and civic engagement.
Readers will also find timely resources from LAMA and ELCA Advocacy, including:
An invitation to participate in Bread for the World’s Day of Action on June 10
Guidance for congregations and rostered ministers on being a faithful, nonpartisan public church during election season
A new ELCA resource exploring immigration detention and Christian public witness
Information on cooling centers and heat relief as extreme temperatures arrive in Arizona
Updates on hunger and agriculture funding advocacy
Details about ELCA World Hunger Domestic Hunger Grants, with letters of inquiry due July 1
As Lutherans, we are called to love our neighbors not only through acts of charity, but also through advocacy, accompaniment, and public witness. LAMA continues to offer meaningful ways for congregations and individuals to faithfully engage the issues affecting communities across Arizona.
