Final Week to Register: Bishop’s Fall Gathering at the Franciscan Renewal Center
The registration deadline is almost here for the 2025 Bishop’s Fall Gathering, taking place Monday, September 29 through Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Scottsdale, AZ. All rostered ministers and synodically authorized ministers (SAMs) of the Grand Canyon Synod are invited. Active rostered ministers will receive priority if space fills.
Our theme this year is Life Together: Lament, Love and Christian Hope in a Time Such as This. Together, we will explore how Lutheran theology can shape a counter-cultural witness to Christ’s reconciling love in an age fractured by division and Christian Nationalism. Through worship, fellowship, and deep engagement, we will consider how lament can serve as a catalyst for hope and how inclusive Christian community embraces neighbors, strangers, and even enemies.
We are honored to welcome Rev. Dr. Kristin Johnston Largen, President of Wartburg Theological Seminary, and Rev. Dr. S. Helen Chukka, Assistant Professor of Hebrew Bible at Wartburg Seminary, as our featured speakers. Sessions will weave insights from Bonhoeffer’s Life Together with stories from the Old Testament, offering wisdom and material for leaders to bring back to their congregations.
Registration includes meals and lodging options at the Franciscan Renewal Center, with commuter rates also available.
Single room: $420
Shared double: $345 per person
Commuter: $175
(First Call leaders and SAMs have extended registration options beginning September 28.)
📅 Registration deadline: Friday, September 5, 2025.
Scholarships are available if finances are a barrier—please contact the Office of the Bishop at office@gcsynod.org or 602-957-3223.
