From Digital Security to Peaceful Elections: This Week from AFN

The latest Arizona Faith Network (AFN) newsletter is packed with opportunities for people and congregations to learn, serve and strengthen communities across faiths and differences — including upcoming programs on digital security, elder abuse prevention, election protection and building courageous unity in a time of division.

Coming soon is Digital Security Workshop 2.0: Protecting Your Congregation & Organization, Thursday, Aug. 27, from noon–1:15 p.m. Arizona time on Zoom. Digital security expert and Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative technology reporter Yael Grauer will share practical strategies for protecting websites, CRM systems and sensitive information and responding to common digital threats. Registration is $10 for Safe Communities Coalition members and $15 for non-members.

On Tuesday, Sept. 1, noon–1 p.m., AFN will offer a virtual Lunch & Learn: Interfaith Conversation on Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse, with practical guidance to help clergy, lay leaders and congregations recognize concerns, respond compassionately and connect vulnerable older adults with appropriate support.

AFN is also recruiting Poll Chaplains and Peacekeepers for the November general election. These faith-rooted volunteers help create safe, welcoming and peaceful voting environments through AFN’s nonpartisan Election Protection program. No previous experience is required, and training will be provided.

Registration is also open for the 2026 AFN Annual Gathering, Tuesday, Oct. 20, at First UCC Church in Phoenix and online. This year’s theme, “From Conflict to Community: Building Courageous Unity in a Time of Division,” will explore how faith-rooted leadership can foster belonging, resilience and hope. The keynote speaker will be Rev. Dr. Gary Mason, a Methodist minister and internationally recognized peacebuilder from Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The newsletter includes still more opportunities, including a Sept. 12 forum on anti-LGBTQIA2S+ legislation, a Sacred Traditions Facilitator Course in Tucson, an International Peace Day film gathering in Scottsdale, heat-relief needs in Pima County and a call for volunteers for the Episcopal Church’s 2027 General Convention in Phoenix.
