From Film Series to Faithful Action: Climate Justice Resources for ELCA Lutherans

As Lutherans, we confess that God calls us to care for creation and love our neighbors. This month, our partners at Lutherans Restoring Creation (LRC) are offering new tools, learning opportunities, and advocacy efforts to help congregations and individuals engage faithfully in climate justice.

Here are a few highlights from the latest Good Green News newsletter worth putting on your radar:

Back to Our Roots: Story Sharing and Practical Ideas

LRC is returning to one of its earliest practices: gathering to share ideas and stories of faithful environmental stewardship. “Back to Our Roots” will feature members sharing innovative practices and practical ways congregations are caring for creation.

The gathering takes place at 5 p.m. PT / 6 p.m. MT / 7 p.m. CT / 8 p.m. ET, and participants are encouraged to bring their own ideas and experiences to share. Registration is available through Lutherans Restoring Creation.

New Resource: Faith + Climate Film Series

Looking for a way to engage your congregation, small group, or youth ministry in climate conversations? LRC’s partners at Blessed Tomorrow have released a new Faith + Climate Film Series featuring ELCA leaders and multifaith voices exploring faithful responses to climate change.

Each short film includes a free discussion toolkit with scripture, prayer, and practical action steps to support meaningful conversation and faithful engagement. Congregations can use the films for screenings, education, or small group discussion.

Climate Justice Advocacy During Synod Assembly Season

LRC is also encouraging congregations and synods to engage a proposed Decade of Climate Justice resolutionconnected to the World Council of Churches. According to LRC, 18 synods are forwarding versions of the resolution, with nine already approving one.

As synod assemblies continue across the church, leaders are invited to explore the model resolution and consider how their communities might participate in strengthening climate justice ministries in the ELCA.
