From August Recess to Hunger and Health Care: What Lutherans Need to Know This Week
This week’s Lutheran Advocacy Ministry Arizona (LAMA) newsletter offers timely opportunities for faithful public witness, learning and service across Arizona and the Grand Canyon Synod.
LAMA’s top Action Alert encourages Lutherans to make plans now to engage their members of Congress during the August recess. When lawmakers return to their home districts, constituents can attend public events, request meetings and share how federal policies affect their congregations and neighbors. ELCA Advocacy offers practical resources to help Lutherans approach these conversations with preparation, confidence and a faith-rooted commitment to the common good.
The newsletter also highlights several upcoming opportunities to serve and learn. Tucson-area volunteers are invited to pack heat-relief “Bags of Hope” on July 26. Faith communities can learn compassionate and practical ways to respond to homelessness during the second “Serving Our Neighbors Safely” Lunch & Learn on July 28. The Grand Canyon Synod Hunger Leaders Network also meets July 28, bringing together congregational leaders to share ideas, resources and encouragement for hunger ministry.
