Giving Thanks for Faithful Ministry: Pastor Robert S. Jones Retires
Pastor Robert S. Jones retired from pastoral ministry on Sunday, January 4, 2026, marking the close of a faithful chapter of service to Christ’s church and the beginning of a new season of rest and renewal.
Pastor Jones’ retirement was celebrated during morning worship at Santa Cruz Lutheran Church in Tucson, where Retirement Rites were led by Pastor David Pavesic. The congregation then gathered for a joyful potluck meal, offering gifts and well-wishes—many themed for Pastor “Bob’s” next adventures, including plans for camping and time in God’s creation.
Pastor Robert S. Jones has served at Santa Cruz Lutheran Church since 2019, walking alongside the congregation through worship, pastoral care, and the challenges and hopes of recent years. His ministry reflects a deep commitment to the Gospel and to accompaniment—being present with people in times of joy, grief, transition, and growth.
In addition to his ministry at Santa Cruz, Pastor Jones has served in multiple pastoral roles across Arizona and abroad, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ across cultures and contexts. His vocational journey reflects the Lutheran understanding of ministry as both calling and service—rooted in Word and Sacrament and lived out in love for neighbor.
As a synod, we give thanks for Pastor Jones’ faithful ministry and the many lives touched through his service. We also celebrate this new season of retirement, trusting that God continues to call and accompany him into what comes next.
Let us pray:
Gracious God, we thank you for your servant Robert and for his years of faithful ministry. Bless him in this new season of life with rest, joy, adventure, and renewed wonder in your creation. Surround him with your peace, and continue to use his gifts in new and life-giving ways. We entrust him to your care, confident that you who call also sustain. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
