Grand Canyon Synod Releases 2026 External Audit, Reaffirming Commitment to Transparency
The Grand Canyon Synod’s Annual External Audit for the fiscal year ending January 31, 2026, is now available on our website as part of our ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, and faithful stewardship. The audit can be viewed anytime through our Financial Overview page.
We are deeply grateful for the financial gifts, mission support, prayers, and trust shared by congregations and individuals across the Grand Canyon Synod. Your generosity helps sustain ministries throughout Arizona, southern Nevada, St. George, Utah, and the Navajo Nation, supporting congregations, campus ministries, leadership development, advocacy work, and partnerships across our region and the wider church.
The independent audit, conducted by Metz CPA, found that the Synod’s financial statements “present fairly, in all material respects,” the financial position of the Grand Canyon Synod in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
The audit reports total net assets of approximately $10.57 million and total assets of approximately $11.06 million as of January 31, 2026. Congregational and designated giving totaled more than $1.75 million during the year, reflecting the continued commitment of congregations and donors to shared ministry across the synod and ELCA.
The report also highlights financial support distributed to ministry partners and organizations including campus ministries at Arizona State University, the University of Arizona, and Northern Arizona University; Navajo Lutheran Mission; Lutheran Social Services ministries; San Juan Bautista; Spirit in the Desert; and other ministries serving communities throughout the region.
As part of the audit process, previously unrecorded endowment funds from prior years were formally recognized and restated in the financial statements, strengthening the accuracy and completeness of the Synod’s financial reporting.
The Grand Canyon Synod Finance Administrator oversees accounting operations including monthly financial statements, congregational mission support reporting, coordination of the annual external audit, and preparation of the annual financial mission plan (budget).
