Guidelines Announced for 2024 Synod Assembly Resolutions Submission

As we gear up for the 2024 Grand Canyon Synod Assembly, we invite all members to actively participate in the shaping of our Synod's future by submitting resolutions for consideration. Resolutions are crucial tools for expressing the collective voice and vision of our community, impacting the direction and focus of our collective work and worship.

To ensure a smooth and effective process, all resolutions must adhere to the constitutional and procedural guidelines set forth by the Grand Canyon Synod and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. This includes compliance with parliamentary procedure and Robert's Rules of Order, as well as the specific rules and agenda of the assembly.

The Reference and Counsel Committee plays a vital role in reviewing all submissions to guarantee they meet all necessary procedural requirements. This preliminary review process allows sponsors to make any necessary corrections and ensures timely distribution to voting members.

Key Dates to Remember:

  • Submission Deadline: Resolutions must be submitted by the close of business on Monday, April 22, 2024.

  • Submission Format: Resolutions should be sent electronically as an editable file (e.g., MS Word) to Mary Beth Baron, Chair of the Reference and Counsel Committee, at baronswest@yahoo.com.

  • Final Report Availability: The committee's final report, including all submitted resolutions and recommendations, will be available for download from the synod website by Friday, May 17, 2024.

It's important to note that the inclusion of a resolution in the pre-assembly report does not ensure it will be discussed or voted on during the assembly. The assembly's rules and agenda will determine the parameters for time and debate.

For any questions or clarifications about the resolution submission process, please reach out directly to Mary Beth Baron at the email provided above.
