Healthcare, Hunger & Voting Rights: LAMA’s February Advocacy Update
Lutheran Day at the Legislature – February 23
Wesley Bolin Plaza | Arizona State Capitol
8:30 am gathering | Advocacy 9:30 am–1:30 pm
Lutherans from across Arizona will gather at the Capitol on Monday, February 23 to learn, rally, meet legislators, and voice our shared commitment to justice in public life.
Lutheran Day at the Legislature includes:
Orientation and policy briefings
Meetings with lawmakers
Introductions in both chamber galleries
Fellowship, breakfast, and lunch
As Lutherans, we affirm that advocacy is a form of neighbor-love. Public policy affects healthcare access, food security, immigration enforcement, and voting rights — all areas where our faith compels engagement.
🚨 Action Alert: Healthcare 2026 (RTS)
LAMA is tracking healthcare-related bills moving quickly through the legislature during crossover week. Advocates are encouraged to use Arizona’s Request to Speak (RTS) system to register support or opposition.
Additional current advocacy areas include:
Food insecurity legislation
Voting rights (ELCA Action Alert on the SAVE Act)
Immigration enforcement updates
Hunger Leaders Network (Feb. 24 at 6:00 pm)
Other Key Events
Grand Canyon Synod Hunger Leaders Network – Feb. 24

Anti-Hunger & Food Systems Advocacy Call – March 6
LAMA also celebrates receiving a Grand Canyon Synod grant supporting legislative tracking tools to strengthen advocacy capacity.
Why This Matters
Martin Luther wrote that Christians are called to serve God in the public realm. Advocacy is not partisan — it is rooted in baptismal identity and the command to love our neighbor.
