New Promise Lutheran Church (ELCA), a welcoming congregation amid the red rocks of southern Utah, seeks a part-time Church Musician to enrich our worship life through faithful, skillful music. In the Lutheran tradition, congregational song carries the Word and strengthens our prayer; this role partners with pastors, the music director, and the worship team to help the assembly sing the story of God across the seasons of the church year.

Core responsibilities

  • Provide organ and/or piano music for Sunday worship and special liturgical days.

  • Offer preludes, postludes, and service music that fit the day’s themes.

  • Lead congregational singing; accompany vocalists/ensembles as needed.

  • Collaborate on worship planning and hymn selection aligned with lectionary/liturgical calendar.

  • Prepare music in advance, coordinate substitutes when needed, and help oversee instrument care.

  • With the right fit, responsibilities may grow over time.

Desired qualifications

  • Required:

    • Proficiency in organ (and piano)

    • Knowledge of liturgical traditions and seasons of the church year

    • Ability to select/prepare music aligned with Scripture, liturgical themes, and congregational capacity

    • Collaborative spirit with pastors and lay leaders

    • Reliability and professionalism in preparation, communication, and presence

  • Preferred:

    • Experience leading/directing vocal ensembles/choirs

    • Familiarity with contemporary/praise styles and openness to thoughtful blending

    • Experience with Lutheran liturgy

    • Skills in arranging/adapting for different instruments or vocal ranges

If you’re eager to help a congregation sing the faith—rooted in Word and Sacrament, attentive to the church year, and open to a range of musical expressions—we invite your application.
