Help Us Host the Church: Volunteer for the 2025 ELCA Churchwide Assembly
The Grand Canyon Synod is honored to host the 2025 ELCA Churchwide Assembly, taking place July 28–August 2, 2025, at the Phoenix Convention Center. As the primary decision-making body of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), this assembly gathers leaders from all over the church to worship, discern, and shape our shared future.
To make this gathering a success, we need your help. Up to 100 volunteers are needed to assist with registration, hospitality, worship support, and tech. Whether you’re greeting visitors at the airport, offering directions at the convention center, or serving as a microphone page during plenary, your presence will embody the radical hospitality we profess as followers of Christ.
There are shifts available before, during, and after the assembly. You can sign up for just a few hours or for multiple roles across the week. A few key roles still needing volunteers include:
Airport Greeters (July 26–28)
Dining Hosts (July 28, 30, and August 1)
Door Monitors and Microphone Pages (various days and times)
Registration and Worship Support (Monday, July 28 and Saturday, August 2)
Prayer Vigil, Tech, and Luggage Room Support
A full list of open shifts and the volunteer sign-up form is available at:
This is a once-in-a-decade opportunity for our synod to welcome the wider church with warmth and care. It’s also a chance to serve side-by-side with others from across our region and deepen your connection to the ELCA’s broader mission. We need folks from every corner of our synod—Arizona, southern Nevada, St. George, and the Navajo Nation.
Volunteering is more than logistics. It’s ministry. Your hospitality reflects God’s grace. Your presence helps the church discern with clarity. Thank you for considering how you can be part of this meaningful event.
