Hope and Help for the Holidays: LSSN’s Mission Continues
Even during a government shutdown that has paused its pantry and senior meal programs, Lutheran Social Services of Nevada (LSSN) continues to embody the Lutheran call to serve neighbors in need with compassion and hope.
President and CEO Tim Bedwell shared that while these programs are temporarily on hold, the organization remains open and is actively accepting applications for Christmas and Thanksgiving assistance. Those seeking help—or wishing to adopt children or seniors for the holidays—are encouraged to reach out via info@lssnv.org (subject line: Christmas Angel) or apply online at lutheransocialservicesofnevada.org/christmas.
Amid these challenges, generosity abounds. E.A.T Meals, a Las Vegas-based company, has partnered with LSSN and OnPoint Campaigns to provide 2,000 turkey dinners this Thanksgiving. The free meals will be distributed Tuesday, November 25, at LSSN’s Boulder Highway location (4323 Boulder Hwy, Las Vegas, NV 89121). Volunteers are needed that morning for two shifts:
8:30–10:00 a.m.: Turkey distribution
10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.: Prepared gourmet meal handout
To volunteer, email info@lssnv.org with “VOLUNTEER” in the subject line.
LSSN also extends deep gratitude to New Song Lutheran Church and Christian Academy for their creative and heartfelt support. The congregation’s women’s group donated 70 birthday cake kits to bring joy to families who might otherwise miss celebrations, and the Academy’s families donated hundreds of warm clothing items and blankets to protect vulnerable neighbors this winter.
As the year draws to a close, LSSN invites supporters to make an impact through year-end giving. Gifts may be made securely online at lutheransocialservicesofnevada.org/giving, by Zelle (@Giving@lssnv.org), stock transfer, Qualified Charitable Distributions, or check by mail to the address above.
For those wishing to make a lasting commitment, membership in the 1985 Society offers a way to sustain this ministry of service and compassion year after year.
“Our commitment to the community hasn’t changed,” says Bedwell. “Together, we’ll get through this and come back stronger than ever.”
In this season of gratitude and giving, LSSN reminds us that the Church’s mission continues wherever there is need—and that through faith, generosity, and partnership, God’s love remains steadfast in Southern Nevada.
