“Hope Is a Group Project”: Join ELCA’s Wayfinding in the Commons on May 6

On Wednesday, May 6, leaders and seekers across the church are invited to join Wayfinding in the Commons, a new monthly online gathering hosted by the ELCA Coaching team. The group will meet on the first Wednesday of each month for 45 minutes, beginning at 11:00 am (AZ/Pacific) | 12:00 pm Mountain | 1:00 pm Central | 2:00 pm Eastern.

This gathering is designed to offer four key elements: Community, Learning, Clarity (which creates agency), and at least one actionable step for participants to carry into their lives and ministries.

Rooted in the idea that “hope is a group project,” Wayfinding in the Commons invites participants into a shared journey of discernment and connection. In a time when many leaders feel isolated or uncertain, this space centers the truth that we do not navigate alone. As followers of Christ, we are called into relationship—with God and with one another—and it is within that shared life that the Spirit moves most powerfully.

The concept of the commons—what we share together—offers both a framework and a practice. It shifts our focus from individual ownership to collective stewardship, echoing the early church’s witness in Acts, where believers held all things in common for the sake of the community. In this gathering, participants are invited not just to reflect on the commons, but to actively practice it through conversation, collaboration, and mutual support.

Each session includes:

  • Grounding in community through scripture, prayer, or reflection

  • Short leadership learning to spark insight

  • Small-group “wayfinding” conversations to engage real-life and ministry challenges

  • Time for reflection and integration

This space is intentionally open to a wide range of participants—whether you are a rostered leader, lay leader, coach, or simply someone seeking connection and purpose. If you feel stuck, curious, isolated, or hopeful for something more, you are invited.

As one reflection shared by the organizers puts it: loneliness amplifies despair, but community, partnership, and action are the antidote.

In a season where many are asking how to lead faithfully in uncertain times, Wayfinding in the Commons offers a simple but profound invitation: show up, share honestly, listen deeply, and take one step forward together.
