Participants will explore how to recognize challenging behaviors, respond with compassion, and assess how welcoming their faith community is to those with dementia and their caregivers. The workshop goes beyond medical understanding—it emphasizes Christ-centered support, improved communication, mobility, accessibility, safety, and everyday expressions of God’s love.

Faith Community Nurses are the primary audience, but the event is also open to nurses outside LFCNA and non-nurses interested in creating inclusive, supportive congregations.

Attendees are eligible to receive 2.0 nursing contact hours, approved by the Montana Nurses Association, an accredited approver with distinction by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Full attendance and submission of an evaluation are required for credit.

Dr. Mauk brings more than 44 years of experience in chronic illness, rehabilitation, and gerontological nursing. She is a published author and editor with deep roots in Christian nursing leadership, currently serving as Professor and Associate Dean at Colorado Christian University.

This is a valuable opportunity for our synod’s leaders and caregivers to embrace the call to welcome, love, and serve all God’s people—including those living with dementia.
