Hunger Action Month and Faithful Civic Engagement: LAMA’s September Update
September’s LAMA newsletter invites Arizona Lutherans to turn faith into public action through hunger advocacy, nonpartisan election engagement and support for community ministries.
September is Hunger Action Month, and Lutheran Advocacy Ministry Arizona is calling congregations and individuals to help ensure that every neighbor has the daily bread they need. Readers will find practical ways to respond through service, generosity and advocacy—expressions of our Lutheran vocation to love and serve our neighbors while addressing the systems that contribute to hunger.
The newsletter also features timely opportunities and resources for faithful civic participation:
LAMA’s 2026 Voter Guide introduces the eight ballot measures Arizona voters will consider this fall, with context grounded in ELCA social teaching.
The ELCA social statement Faith and Civic Life: Seeking the Well-Being of All offers a Lutheran framework for civic engagement.
Congregations can learn how to host strictly nonpartisan candidate forums.
A “God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday resource connects community service with faithful advocacy.
Arizona residents are reminded to register to vote by Monday, October 5, for the November 3 general election.
LAMA’s candidate contact list helps advocates begin constructive, nonpartisan conversations with those seeking public office.
Upcoming online events include meetings focused on social justice, voting rights, anti-hunger advocacy and care for creation, as well as election-engagement and Election Protection training.
The issue also reminds ministries that applications for Grand Canyon Synod Grants are due no later than midnight on Friday, September 25, 2026. These grants support new or continuing projects that advance the synod’s strategic goals.
Our Lutheran witness calls us to trust God’s abundance, seek the well-being of all and accompany our neighbors in both service and advocacy.
