In Memoriam: Rev. Roy A Guinn

We pray for the family and friends of Rev. Roy A Guinn, who died August 24, 2023.

Rev. Roy A Guinn was born in Jeannette, PA on September 25, 1928. Roy grew up in a family with two older brothers Kenneth and Thomas. After WWII his brothers and he attended Thiel College in Greenville, PA where Roy played both baseball and soccer.

After receiving his BS degree in chemistry, both he and his brother Tom attended Northwestern Lutheran Seminary in Minneapolis, MN. Roy was ordained in 1953 and served parishes in Petersburg, VA, Bloomington, MN, Westminster, CA, Tucson, AZ, Sedona, AZ, and ending his full time ministry back here in Tucson.

During his ministry he was blessed to have been involved in five building programs, serving in several Mission congregations. He retired from Dove of Peace Lutheran Church, Tucson in 1993. He served briefly at Resurrection Church, Oro Valley and has preached at most of the Lutheran churches in Tucson.

Roy was married to his wife, Marge for 71 years. They have two children: Mark of Rapid City, SD and Julie Ivanoff and her husband John of Oro Valley with their two children, Alec and Sarah Smith and her husband Kelly of Dallas,TX. He was blessed to have countless friends in and around Tucson; enjoying golf in SaddleBrooke where he lived for 30 years.

Services will be held at Resurrection Lutheran Church, Oro Valley on October 16, 2023, at 11am, with interment in the church’s columbarium.

O God of grace and glory, we remember before you our brother, Pastor Roy Guinn. We thank you for giving him to us to know and to love as a companion in our pilgrimage on earth. In your boundless compassion, console us who mourn. Give us faith to see that death has been swallowed up in the victory of our Lord, Jesus Christ, so that we may live in confidence and hope until, by your call, we are gathered to our heavenly home in the company of all your saints; through Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord.
