Jazz Vespers Supports Hunger Action at Mount of Olives in Phoenix
Gather for music, worship and service at Jazz Vespers on Sunday, September 13, at 5:30 p.m. Beth Lederman will be joined by her group, Jazz con Alma, for this monthly fundraising event supporting Mount of Olives Lutheran Church’s ministry to neighbors experiencing hunger.
September is Hunger Action Month—a timely invitation to turn faith into action. If you have never attended Jazz Vespers, this is an especially meaningful month to begin.
Mount of Olives’ Olive Branch Food Closet serves nearly 300 family units each week as the need for food assistance continues to grow across Arizona. In partnership with St. Mary’s Food Bank and Waste Not, the congregation has transformed what began as a small effort serving a few families into a vital community ministry.
Jazz Vespers brings together live music and contemplative worship, followed by fellowship and light refreshments. Through this “Music for Food” ministry, participants can pause for reflection, connect with one another and help sustain the work of feeding neighbors in need.
For Lutherans, responding to hunger is more than an act of generosity. It is an expression of our baptismal calling to serve all people, following the example of Jesus, and to strive for justice and peace throughout the earth.
All are welcome. Come for the music, stay for the fellowship and join Mount of Olives in putting faith into action during Hunger Action Month.
