Justa Center Seeks Program Director to Lead Work with Phoenix Seniors Experiencing Homelessness
Justa Center, a Phoenix-based nonprofit dedicated to serving adults age 55 and older experiencing homelessness, is seeking a Program Director to provide strategic leadership and oversight of its programs. Those interested in applying are invited to submit a cover letter and resume to dean@justacenter.org.
Founded in 2006, Justa Center is the only day center in the Phoenix metro area focused exclusively on seniors experiencing homelessness. The organization provides a compassionate environment where older adults can access essential services such as case management, healthcare and behavioral health referrals, benefits assistance, and housing navigation. Through advocacy, partnership, and direct services, Justa Center works to reduce senior homelessness and help older adults move toward stability, dignity, and hope.
The Program Director will play a key role in advancing this mission by providing leadership and oversight for several programs, including Path to Housing, Transitional Housing, and Veterans services. The position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Director of Operations to ensure effective program delivery and strong collaboration across teams and partner organizations.
Key responsibilities include supervising direct service staff, supporting a trauma-informed and culturally responsive program culture, coordinating case management efforts with healthcare and housing partners, and tracking program outcomes such as housing placements and service utilization. The role also represents Justa Center in community partnerships and service system meetings, helping strengthen collaboration with organizations across the region.
Qualified candidates should have at least five years of management experience in a human services environment and experience working with geriatric populations. Knowledge of homelessness service systems, behavioral health systems, and case management approaches is important. A bachelor’s degree is required, and a master’s degree in public health, social work, or a related field is preferred. Experience with nonprofit fundraising and strong leadership and communication skills are also valued.
The position offers a competitive salary based on experience and a benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance; paid time off; life insurance; retirement options with employer match; and professional development opportunities.
Since opening in 2006, Justa Center has focused solely on the growing challenge of senior homelessness. In its early years, the average age of a senior experiencing homelessness was about 57. Today, that average has risen to about 65, reflecting a troubling trend of more older adults—often over age 70—experiencing homelessness for the first time.
In response, Justa Center continues to provide a comprehensive approach that recognizes the complex needs of aging adults. By working closely with healthcare providers, housing partners, and community organizations, the center develops individualized plans to help members regain stability and move toward permanent housing.
For congregations and leaders across the Grand Canyon Synod who care deeply about housing justice and the dignity of older adults, this role represents an opportunity to support a vital ministry serving some of the region’s most vulnerable neighbors.
