Sign by October 18: Join Lutherans Speaking Against Hunger

Residents of Arizona, Nevada, and California are invited to sign a Hunger Leaders Network letter to their governors by Sunday, October 18. This call to address hunger leads Lutheran Advocacy Ministry Arizona’s October 13 newsletter, alongside voter resources, congregational advocacy tools, and upcoming gatherings.

As an advocacy ministry of the Grand Canyon Synod, LAMA helps Lutherans respond to God’s grace through public witness and care for neighbors. This issue offers several ways to participate:

  • Speak up against hunger: Add your name to the regional letter urging stronger action against hunger. The letters are scheduled to be sent October 19; follow the newsletter’s action-alert link to sign before the deadline.

  • Connect with other advocates: The LAMA Liaison Roundtable meets October 19, 6:30–7:30 p.m., via Zoom, offering conversation about congregational engagement in advocacy.

  • Build community across differences: Arizona Faith Network’s Annual Gathering is October 20, 9 a.m.–noon, at First Church UCC in Phoenix and online, with the theme “From Conflict to Community.”

  • Explore hunger funding: The newsletter highlights ELCA World Hunger Daily Bread Grants, with applications accepted through October 21.

Readers will also find LAMA’s 2026 Arizona Voter Guide in English and Spanish, information about judicial voting, and a call from Arizona faith leaders for a truthful and peaceful election. A video study guide featuring the Rev. Amy Reumann helps congregations move from concern to action, while an opinion piece by the Rev. Christine Stoxen reflects on voting as a way to give voice to overlooked neighbors. The issue also introduces the synod’s Growing in Faith offering on Jesus’ call beyond nationalism.
