Listen to Arizona Boarding School Stories on September 30

Three Arizona Screenings Invite Truth-Telling and Healing

On September 30, 2026, attend a screening of Listening & Healing Pilgrimage: Stories from Arizona Indian Boarding Schools in Sedona, Scottsdale, or Tucson. Tickets range from $10 to $12, with free admission for people who identify as Native American through the arrangements below.

The screenings coincide with Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which honors residential school survivors, the children who never returned home, and their families and communities.

The 95-minute documentary follows the Episcopal Diocese of Arizona’s Council for Native American Ministry on a pilgrimage begun in 2024. Through encounters with survivors, families, researchers, and Native voices, the film explores Arizona’s boarding school history, its lasting effects, and the Diocese’s examination of its own role. The pilgrimage concluded with a healing ceremony and a commitment to continued truth-telling and reconciliation.

For Lutherans, this invitation connects with our practices of confession, repentance, and love of neighbor. Trusting in God’s grace, we can face painful truths about the church’s involvement in harm, listen to Indigenous voices, and take responsibility for building more just relationships.
