Navajo Lutheran Mission Responds to Community Flooding
Help Rock Point Families Recover from Flooding
Flooding on October 12–13, 2026, forced residents of Rock Point on the Navajo Nation to evacuate their homes. Navajo Lutheran Mission/House of Prayer is helping meet immediate needs and preparing to support families through the recovery ahead. Please pray for the community and give to support the Mission’s work.
According to an update shared by Deacon Kate Adelman, winds and up to five inches of rain flooded the community, sending residents to a shelter at Rock Point Community School. The American Red Cross and local food truck Bidii Chidi provided warm meals and disaster assistance. Volunteers filled thousands of sandbags, and the Chapter served as the command center.
Mission buildings are safe, though standing water surrounds them. Mission staff have assisted with tractors, donated clothing, Hoz’ho meals, food bank supplies, and access to the water well.
The rain has stopped, but recovery will take much longer. Families face flooded homes, deep mud, and ruined belongings. Older residents are especially vulnerable, and existing economic pressures have strained families’ ability to recover.
As emergency responders leave, the Mission will continue serving neighbors as it has for more than 70 years. Staff will offer food, water, quilts, firewood, household goods, and other available resources made possible by donors.
Our Lutheran faith calls us to respond to God’s grace through loving service to our neighbors. Across the Grand Canyon Synod, we can support this ministry of care through prayer and generosity.
Please keep Rock Point’s residents and Mission staff in your prayers, and contribute at nelm.org to help sustain care in the weeks and months ahead.
