New in 2026: PLTS Launches Online Racial Justice & Faith Certificate Program
Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary (PLTS) has announced a new slate of 6-week, online, asynchronous courses for 2026 focused on the intersection of racial justice and Christian faith—designed to be accessible, affordable, and deeply rooted in liberative theological practice.
These courses are open to pastors, deacons, lay leaders, and anyone interested in racial justice and faith, regardless of age, background, or level of church involvement. No undergraduate degree is required. Each course costs $250, with discounts available for PLTS alumni and congregational groups, and participants who complete four courses will receive a Certificate in Racial Justice and Faith from PLTS.
First Course Begins February 9
The first course, Womanism and Social Justice, runs February–March 2026, with enrollment requested by January 25. Participants will engage Womanist theological principles to examine how faith shapes our response to racial injustice and how reflective practices can lead to transformative action in our communities.
Instructor: Rev. Iya Keyona Saquile Lazenby
Format: Online, asynchronous (with optional Zoom gatherings)
Registration deadline: January 25
Course start: February 9, 2026

Program Design & Support
The Racial Justice and Faith Certificate consists of four online modules, each lasting six weeks. Students may enroll in a single course or complete all four to earn the certificate. Courses include readings, discussion forums, projects, and reflection papers, with regular opportunities to process learning together via Zoom.
Students are supported throughout the program by chaplains Rev. Albert Starr and Rev. Dr. Sheryl Johnson, who accompany participants in both theological reflection and personal discernment.
Upcoming courses also include:
My Church History Story (April–May 2026), taught by Rev. Dr. Carla Guzmán
Why This Matters
Grounded in the conviction that we are all called to confront and dismantle white supremacy, this program invites participants—Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and white—to examine their own stories and histories through a faith lens. It is well suited for congregations and leaders seeking formation that may align with synod anti-racism commitments.
Congregations enrolling four or more participants receive a $50 per-person discount, making this a strong option for group learning and shared accountability.
