New Season, Shared Calling: Meet Your Synod Council

This weekend our Synod Council gathers for its first retreat—a time to pray, learn one another’s stories, and focus our shared work for the year ahead. We’re delighted to welcome Mr. Mark Myers (Colorado River Conference) as our new Vice President, along with new members Mr. Ron Fraass (Colorado River Conference representative), Dr. Richard Green (At-Large Representative) River and Mr. Bruce Rianda (Kino Conference representative). Please keep them—and the entire Council—in your prayers as they begin.

The Grand Canyon Synod Council is elected by Synod Assembly to serve as the synod’s board of directors and its interim legislative authority between assemblies. In plain terms, the Council carries forward the work we commit to together: setting program goals and budgets, stewarding our mission, caring for leaders, and making sure our actions reflect our faith in Jesus Christ for the sake of the world.

Who serves this year

  • Officers/Executive Committee: Bishop Rev. Deborah K. Hutterer; Mr. Mark Myers, Vice President; Mr. Erik Rehms, Treasurer; Rev. Stephen A. Springer, Secretary.

As we begin, we remember Paul’s encouragement to “do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God” (Col. 3:17). May our work together be rooted in prayer, framed by the Gospel, and aimed at building up the witness of congregations across Arizona, southern Nevada, St. George, and the Navajo Nation.
