Office of the Bishop Closed for Labor Day – September 1

The Office of the Bishop of the Grand Canyon Synod will be closed on Monday, September 1, 2025 in observance of Labor Day. Regular office hours will resume on Tuesday, September 2.

Labor Day is a time to honor the dignity of work and the contributions of laborers who help sustain our communities and daily lives. As Lutherans, we affirm that vocation is a holy calling, whether lived out in workplaces, homes, congregations, or communities. Each person’s work—seen and unseen—is part of God’s good creation.

As we pause for rest and renewal, we also remember those whose labor is often overlooked, underpaid, or undervalued. In gratitude for all who serve, we offer this prayer:

A Prayer for Labor Day

Creator God, you formed us to share in your work of cultivating and caring for the world. We give thanks for the hands and hearts that labor in fields and factories, in offices and classrooms, in homes and communities. Grant rest to the weary, fairness to the worker, and dignity to every vocation. May our labor always reflect your love and bring forth justice, peace, and daily bread for all. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

May this Labor Day be a time of gratitude, reflection, and renewal for all in our synod.
