Rev. Lowell Nelson serves as Grand Canyon Synod Emissary and Encourager

Retired pastor Lowell Nelson embarks on a three-month experiment, volunteering as a “Grand Canyon Synod Emissary and Encourager.”

Through the end of January, he’ll check in on council presidents and pastors, sharing stories of the Grand Canyon Synod and our common work. These first three months he will be focusing on the Northeast Valley and Capital Conferences, thanking them for being Church Together and providing mutual encouragement.

“As I entered into retirement, I sensed a call to encourage pastors and congregational councils in their ministry in the midst of these challenging times,” Pastor Lowell said. “As I shared my interest with Bishop Hutterer, she proposed an intriguing pathway for me as a Grand Canyon Synod Emissary. The plan is to meet with pastors and Church Councils to express gratitude for our Church leaders and provide mutual encouragement through sharing faith stories arising throughout the Grand Canyon Synod.”

He continues, “I can think of no greater mutual benefit than sharing Christ’s story in our own life, our family, our congregation, our community and throughout the Grand Canyon Synod to encourage and build each other up for the sake of the Gospel.”
