Santa Cruz Lutheran Marks 40 Years with Worship, Music, and Community

Santa Cruz Lutheran Church invites the Grand Canyon Synod and Tucson community to celebrate its 40th Anniversary on Saturday and Sunday, October 11–12, 2025 at 6809 S Cardinal Ave in Tucson, AZ. Together we give thanks for four decades of faith, service, and community on Tucson’s southside.

Saturday, October 11 will be filled with fellowship, history, and music:

  • 11:45 AM – 12:15 PM: Opening greetings and introductions in the Fellowship Hall.

  • 12:15 – 1:15 PM: Lunch featuring Mexican food, with a special anniversary video playing.

  • 1:15 – 2:00 PM: Remarks, visiting, continued video presentation, and time to explore the church’s history board.

  • 2:00 – 3:00 PM: Celebration on the patio with cake and a lively mariachi band.

Sunday, October 12 will center on worship and thanksgiving. The theme is Holy Cross—the English meaning of Santa Cruz—with the Gospel text of Luke 17:11–19. Worship begins at 9:30 AM, using ELW Setting 9, with Bishop Deborah Hutterer preaching.

Highlights of worship include:

  • Gospel, homily, communion, and blessing.

  • Dedication of a new banner created by one of the congregation’s youth.

  • A prayer of blessing for the church’s ministry into future generations.

Following worship, all are invited to a coffee hour in the Fellowship Hall from 10:45 – 11:30 AM.

Santa Cruz Lutheran has long been a faithful witness on Tucson’s southside, bringing together faith, culture, and community. This anniversary is a chance to give thanks for God’s work over the past 40 years and to look ahead with hope to the decades to come.
