Faith and Freedom Dispatch: May 2025
In this month’s Faith and Freedom Dispatch, the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty (BJC) highlights how Christians across the country are organizing against the rising tide of Christian nationalism and defending religious freedom through advocacy, education, and action.
Local groups are growing. There are now 13 community-led coalitions in 10 states participating in the Christians Against Christian Nationalism movement. These groups are responding to the unique needs of their communities, taking the message of faithful resistance into public square conversations and local relationships. Learn how to join or start a group at the link below.
At the national level, BJC recently submitted a critical brief to the U.S. Supreme Court in Oklahoma Charter School Board v. Drummond, warning against the dangers of allowing publicly funded religious education. General Counsel Holly Hollman called this a pivotal moment for the future of both religious liberty and public education in America.
On the ground in Texas, the North Texas coalition hosted its first-ever Advocacy Day in Austin. Participants, guided by faith and justice, spoke with legislators about issues like school vouchers and unjust bail proposals, emphasizing moral leadership rooted in Christian values.
On the air, the latest episodes of the Respecting Religion podcast offer practical insights from Melissa Rogers, former Executive Director of the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships. From navigating government engagement to discussing cases with sweeping legal implications, these episodes serve as resources for faith leaders seeking to act with courage and clarity.
Finally, BJC reminds us that the story of the first 100 days of this administration could have been one of fear—but instead, it became a story of faithful resistance. And that story continues with your help.
