Stolen Stories: Palestinian Christians Share History in Their Own Words

How do Palestinian Christians understand and tell their own history? ELCA Sumud’s new five-part educational video series, Stolen Stories, centers Palestinian Christian voices as they recount their historical narrative from before 1948 to the present. The first two episodes are now available.

Rather than speaking about Palestinian Christians from a distance, Stolen Stories invites viewers to listen directly to Palestinian pastors, bishops and scholars. Together, they offer historical, contextual and theological perspectives on the events that continue to shape life in Palestine and Israel today.

Episode 1: “Nakba” examines the Palestinian experience surrounding 1948 and the displacement remembered by Palestinians as the Nakba, or “catastrophe.”

Episode 2: “Naksa” continues the historical narrative through the events surrounding the 1967 war and its aftermath.

For Lutherans in the Grand Canyon Synod, the series offers an opportunity to listen to the voices and lived experiences of our Palestinian siblings in Christ, particularly the indigenous Christian communities of Palestine and Israel. Listening carefully to one another’s stories is an important part of accompanying the global body of Christ and seeking a deeper understanding of a region too often reduced to competing headlines.
