Tell the Senate Your Story: Faith Communities & ICE Enforcement

BJC and Christians Against Christian Nationalism are collecting stories of ICE activity occurring on or near houses of worship after some U.S. senators questioned whether such enforcement is happening. If you have witnessed or experienced such activity, BJC invites you to submit detailed documentation. Read their full message for submission guidelines and links.

The Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty (BJC) and Christians Against Christian Nationalism are asking faith communities across the country to help document reports of ICE activity occurring on or near houses of worship.

Last week, advocates shared stories with U.S. Senate offices — yet several senators remain skeptical that immigration enforcement actions are taking place at churches, synagogues, mosques, and temples.

If you have witnessed or experienced ICE activity on or near a house of worship, BJC asks that you submit your story.

When sharing, include:

  • Date of the incident

  • City and state

  • Exact location (parking lot, entrance, adjacent street)

  • What happened

  • How it affected worship services or the faith community

You may also submit links to credible local news coverage documenting such activity.

Why This Matters for Lutherans

The ELCA has consistently affirmed both religious liberty and just, humane immigration policy. Houses of worship must not become spaces of fear. The freedom to gather, pray, and serve without intimidation is foundational to our faith.

BJC’s request is about truth-telling and public accountability. If policymakers claim this is not happening, communities of faith must bear honest witness.

If your congregation has relevant information, we encourage you to prayerfully consider participating.
