Walking Together Toward Hope: Support LCM at ASU in Suicide Prevention Efforts

This Saturday, March 21 at 11:00 AM, students from Lutheran Campus Ministry at Arizona State University (LCM at ASU), alongside members of University Lutheran Church in Tempe, will participate in the Out of Darkness Campus Walk benefiting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).

This annual event brings together students and communities across the country to raise awareness, advocate for mental health, and support those affected by suicide. This year, LCM at ASU has formed an official team—offering a visible, faithful witness rooted in hope, healing, and accompaniment.

Participation is simple and meaningful:

  • Join the LCM team to walk together

  • Make a financial gift to support suicide prevention efforts

  • Share this opportunity within your congregation or community

👉 Team page (register or donate): afspwalks.donordrive.com/teams/385252

All donations are 100% tax deductible and support AFSP’s work in research, education, advocacy, and care for those impacted by suicide.

For many students and members of University Lutheran Church, this work is deeply personal. Grounded in the ELCA’s teaching, we remember that:

“As Christ was not afraid to be vulnerable… the church… is not afraid to be vulnerable and wounded.”

And again:

“We are a community of vulnerable people in need of help… freed for a life of receiving and giving help.”

This is the heart of our Lutheran witness: a community where burdens are shared, wounds are named, and hope is proclaimed.

LCM at ASU is committed to a world where no one faces their darkness alone—and this walk is one way they live out that calling.

As a synod, we give thanks for these students—leaders like Savannah Bradley and their team—who are embodying Christ’s compassion in public, tangible ways.

Consider joining them. Walk, give, pray, and witness together.
