For more than 60 years, Campformation has brought together 6th–12th grade youth for a week of faith formation in the great outdoors. Young people gather from congregations across the Grand Canyon Synod to explore Scripture, worship together, build friendships, try new things, and discover what it means to be part of a community rooted in God’s grace.
Campformation is also a ministry that grows leaders. Campers return as counselors and adult leaders, carrying what they have experienced back into their congregations and communities. Over the decades, those relationships and experiences have helped nurture youth ministers, lay leaders, and pastors.
In Lutheran tradition, faith is formed in community—in hearing God’s Word, gathering around worship, asking questions, serving our neighbors, and experiencing God’s grace alongside one another. Campformation creates space for young people to do all of that while discovering that church is larger than any one congregation.
