Welcome Rev. Cherlyne Beck as Transition Coach in the Grand Canyon Synod

The Grand Canyon Synod is pleased to welcome Rev. Cherlyne Beck as a Transition Coach, bringing decades of leadership experience across congregational, synodical, and churchwide ministries.

Rev. Beck, who now resides in Prescott Valley, Arizona, most recently served for more than ten years on the staff of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in Chicago, concluding her ministry as Director of Candidacy and a leader within the ELCA Systems Academy.

Ordained on August 21, 1983, Rev. Beck has served congregations in Michigan and New York, as well as on synod staffs in both the Metropolitan New York Synod and the Southeast Michigan Synod. Her work has focused on candidacy, call processes, and leadership development—areas that are central to healthy transitions in congregational life.

Her vocational journey began in education, teaching in Lutheran schools in Nebraska and Michigan after graduating from Concordia Teacher’s College and earning a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Michigan. She later completed her Master of Divinity at Christ Seminary—Seminex, grounding her ministry in both theological depth and practical leadership.

Following her retirement in April 2024, Rev. Beck has continued to serve the church, including time as Pastor in Residence for congregations in Michigan during pastoral sabbaticals.

Now, as she joins the Grand Canyon Synod, Rev. Beck brings a wealth of experience in walking with leaders and congregations through times of discernment and change. Her work reflects a Lutheran understanding of call—that God continues to raise up leaders and guide communities through every season of ministry.

We give thanks for Rev. Beck’s willingness to serve and look forward to the ways her gifts will strengthen congregations and leaders across our synod.
