You Don’t Have to Lead Alone: Join “Wayfinding in the Commons” This April 1
Beginning Wednesday, April 1, ELCA Coaching invites rostered ministers, lay leaders, and all who are seeking connection to gather online for Wayfinding in the Commons—a monthly 45-minute Zoom experience designed to nurture community, deepen clarity, and inspire meaningful action. More information and details here.
These gatherings will take place on the first Wednesday of each month, beginning at 11:00am Pacific | 12:00pm Mountain | 1:00pm Central | 2:00pm Eastern. Participants can join directly via Zoom.
At a time when many leaders feel isolated or stretched thin, this offering is grounded in a simple truth: we are not meant to journey alone. As Jemar Tisby writes, “Loneliness and isolation amplify despair, but community, partnership, and action are the antidotes. Hope is a group project.”
The practice of wayfinding—learning to orient ourselves in unfamiliar or uncertain terrain—mirrors the reality of ministry today. And the commons reminds us that what we share—our stories, questions, and callings—is not only enough, but essential for shaping a more faithful future together.
Each gathering is intentionally simple and focused:
Community grounding through Scripture, prayer, or reflection
Brief leadership learning to spark insight
Small group “wayfinding” conversations around real-life ministry challenges
Reflection and one actionable step to carry forward
This rhythm creates space for participants to name what is real, listen deeply, and discern how the Spirit is already at work—often beyond the walls of the church.
The invitation is intentionally wide. This gathering is for:
Those who feel alone, stuck, or uncertain
Those who are leading in any capacity
Those who are curious, seeking, or longing for connection
Those who have something to share—or aren’t sure where they fit
In the language of our synod theme, Rooted in God’s Story, this is a practice of remembering that our individual stories are always held within a larger, shared story—one shaped by Christ, sustained in community, and carried forward together.
As Jay Walljasper reflects on the commons, “All that we share is all we need to change the world.” In a season where many are asking what comes next for the church, this gathering offers a faithful and practical response: show up, listen, share, and take one step forward—together.
