Arizona Nonprofit Security Grant: Up to $100,000 Available—Deadline Oct. 15

The State of Arizona’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program (AZ-NSGP) is open for FY2025/2026, offering up to $100,000 per organization (one site; up to three sites total under a single application, with a $100,000 cap across all sites). This state program supports nonprofits at greatest risk of terrorist or hate-motivated attacks with target hardening, security enhancements, and related activities. Full details and forms: azdohs.gov/az-nsgp.

Important: This is not the federal USDHS/FEMA NSGP. AZ-NSGP is Arizona’s state program with its own criteria and submission process.

Eligibility (two-step):

  1. Your organization must meet USDHS/FEMA NSGP nonprofit eligibility for the current year; and

  2. You must meet one of the following:

    • Applied to the federal NSGP and did not receive funding in the last three cycles (2024, 2023, 2022); or

    • Were unable to apply to the federal NSGP because you couldn’t pay up front and wait for reimbursement.

Application essentials:

  • Amount: Up to $100,000 total per applicant (single site or up to three sites combined).

  • Multi-site note: Each site requires its own vulnerability assessment (unique to that site).

  • Deadline: Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025, 5:00 p.m. (Arizona time).

  • How to submit: Email your application materials as attachments to hs@azdohs.gov.

  • Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.

  • Questions: Contact cbowen@azdohs.gov or 602-367-6723.

  • Info & forms: azdohs.gov/az-nsgp

Why this matters for our synod: As Lutherans, we are called to care for the safety and flourishing of our neighbors and to steward our ministries well. For congregations and ministry partners facing real security risks, this grant can help fund practical measures that protect worshipers, volunteers, staff, and the surrounding community—so ministry can continue boldly and hospitably.

Next steps for interested congregations/ministries:

  1. Review the eligibility and requirements at azdohs.gov/az-nsgp.

  2. Confirm whether you meet one of the two state criteria above.

  3. If applying for multiple sites, schedule vulnerability assessments for each site.

  4. Assemble a focused project scope and budget aligned with target hardening priorities.

  5. Submit by Oct. 15 at 5:00 p.m. to hs@azdohs.gov.

We’re sharing this as quickly as possible for our Arizona faith partners. If your ministry is eligible, please act promptly; the window is tight, and preparation (especially assessments) can take time.
