Congratulations to Scholarship Recipient Annie Durante
Congratulations to Annie Durante, this year’s Grace & Grand Canyon Synod Scholarship recipient! Annie is a member of New Covenant Lutheran Church in Scottsdale. She is pictured with Hannah Khatter, one of the scholarship’s first recipients—a connection between students supported by this ministry over the years.
The Grace & Grand Canyon Synod Scholarship Fund offers financial support and encouragement as students pursue their education. Awards are paid from the fund’s interest, leaving the principal intact to support future scholarships.
For Lutherans, education helps people develop their gifts and live out their vocations in service to their neighbors. A scholarship puts that commitment into practice, affirming students’ promise and helping them prepare for the work ahead.
Congregations and individuals across our synod are invited to help this ministry grow. Consider a congregational gift, a special offering, or sharing the scholarship opportunity with students in your community. Supporting the existing fund is a practical way for congregations to participate together in this lasting ministry.
For giving information, contact Shawn Watts at the Arizona Community Foundation. Please direct giving inquiries there, rather than to Grace Lutheran Church or the synod office.
For students considering a future application, the scholarship’s published requirements include:
Membership in a Lutheran congregation within the Grand Canyon Synod for at least two years.
Acceptance into a college, university, trade school, graduate school, or certification program.
A GPA of 2.85 or higher.
Identification of the applicant’s home congregation and at least one reference from that congregation, such as a pastor, youth leader, or congregation member.
The scholarship information lists an application window opening on or around January 15 and closing April 15, with applications available through the Arizona Community Foundation. Prospective applicants should confirm the next cycle’s dates with the foundation.
Join us in celebrating Annie and encouraging the students whose gifts will strengthen our communities for years to come.
